Is eValley Online Banking secure?
With the use of encryption (scrambling data), firewalls and filtering routers incorporated into our overall banking architecture, secure and authentic transactions take place over the Internet.

eValley Online Banking service utilizes several layers of technology to ensure the confidentiality of transactions. Security begins with your browser. Netscape and Microsoft's SSL protocol (Secure Sockets Layer) is used to provide encryption of data flowing between the browser and the server. The protection provided by SSL is to ensure confidentiality of your financial and personal data.

Further protection from intruders exists within our system of firewalls and filtering routers. Each presents an additional barrier between the Internet and the internal network. Firewalls examine each packet of information that is sent across the Internet to the internal network. The purpose of the firewall is to protect the internal network from outside observation. All traffic to the firewall is filtered, verifying the source and destination of each information packet, and eliminating anything suspicious.

Filtering routers are used to verify the source and destination of each information packet sent to the bank, and filter out all packets not addressed to specific network services. The filtering router eliminates any outside packets with an inside source address, to prevent outside users from trying to masquerade as internal sources. The only traffic that is allowed to the Transaction Processing Server is HTTPS traffic.

Customers have their own set of responsibilities in providing security for their eValley Online Banking account. Passwords must be kept secret. Users should make sure that no one is physically watching as passwords are entered. Users should also take precautions to keep computers free from viruses that could be used to capture password keystrokes. Also, Automatic Time Out is set as default. When there is no activity for 20 minutes, your eValley Online Banking session is terminated to help protect against unauthorized access.

How can I determine if the eValley Online Banking site is a secure site?
When you are accessing the eValley site, there are 3 ways you can determine eValley is a secure site. Once you are at the site:

1. The site begins with https:// - This stands for “hypertext transfer protocol secure”.

2. There is a solid key in the lower left corner in Netscape. There is a lock in the right corner of Internet Explorer.

What happens if I forgot my password? How do I access my account?
When you choose your password, it is immediately encrypted for your protection and no one knows it but you, not even Naugatuck Valley Savings and Loan. If logon fails due to incorrect password, check to see if the CAPS Lock is activated on your keyboard, as your password is case sensitive. Your password will be deactivated after 5 incorrect tries. If you have forgotten your password or your password becomes deactivated, notify your eValley Customer Service Representative. A Customer Service Representative will be able to reactivate you if you remember your password but got locked out, or are able to reissue a new password. You can’t access your account on-line without a password. However, you may chose to temporarily use the Valley Voice system for balance inquiries. If you forgot your password, the Customer Service Representative will submit a request to have a new password generated for you and you will receive the new password in the mail. This may take up to 5 days, depending on the circumstances. This password is only a temporary password and the system will prompt you to change the password once you have successfully logged in.

Can I e-mail questions about my account to you? How secure is e-mail?
E-mail is not secure. However, most account questions are fine to handle via e-mail as long as you do not send secure information such as account numbers or social security numbers.

Can I access my accounts only from home?
No, you can access your account from anywhere that you have Internet access that supports 128-bit encryption, since eValley Online Banking does not require additional software.

I have three accounts, but only two accounts appear? Why?
You may want to contact your eValley Customer Service Representative, which can help you determine the cause of this.

Will I be able to see all of my history of transactions?
You will only be able to see the history since becoming Internet enabled. The online statement displays all the transactions that have cleared the bank during a selected time period. The default period begins 30 days prior to the current date, but the customer may change the time frame to any date range.

How current is the information?
The available balance for checking and savings accounts is real-time and will change based on your activity. All other information entered after 2:30 p.m. is considered to be received the next business day. Balances are real-time, however the customer’s history may not reflect transactions that were processed the next business day.
